We don’t think there’s a woman out there that hasn’t felt vulnerable at one time or another. Welcome To My Blog

Hi and welcome to my blog. Do you read newspaper articles about crime and worry so much that ‘you’ll be next’ that you avoid going out at night? Or maybe you think ‘it’ll never happen to me’; happily wandering the streets at night after partying, throwing caution to the wind. Well, I’ve done both (sorry Mum) and believe me, neither extreme is worth it. Women have fought hard over many years to have the same rights to freedom as men and I’m the first to stick my hand in the air and say we’re never going back there, but like it or not we’re stuck with the fact that crime happens. Crime will always be with us, but letting it rule our lives is also not an option – so what’s the answer? Well, in case of rain we take an umbrella so to start with why not carry a personal alarm and think about where you’re going and how you’re getting home. Simple.

Here at Ila we’re passionate about women’s rights to freedom and personal protection. Too often we’re told when challenged to passively hand over our personal possessions. Whilst protecting ourselves has to be a priority (I wouldn’t advocate you fight back unless you’re a British Judo Champion or something similar) but doing nothing? Well to hell with that – this is the time to fight back in other ways. Setting off an Ila Dusk will shock and disorientate anyone – certainly my ears are taking a while to recover – and will give you a window of opportunity to get away.

I’ll be here to put those scary crime stories, statistics and legal dictates into perspective. I’ll also give some tips and advice about staying safe and living a full and exciting ‘crime free’ life. After 25 years in the Metropolitan Police and 16years at Crimewatch I wonder if there’s anything left to surprise me, but I’d love to hear your stories of how you thwarted that thief or beat the burglar so please get in touch and pass on those experiences so that others can benefit.
